Personal Project - Mei from the video game Overwatch
Over the years in my spare time, I have been making a costume of Mei from the popular video game Overwatch. This will be worn at the next Comic Con in London and eventually will take part in the next cosplay competition once it is completed.
I completed the boots in October 2017 and they took me roughly two weeks to make.
They are made out of thick EVA foam (floor mats), and thin eva sheets for the details. The pieces were glued together with contact cement. I painted them up using acrylic paints and added white faux fur around the top.
The coat was completed in May 2018 and decided to really challenge myself with it as this was the first time using Leds in a garment.
I first made a toile out of calico to create my patterns. Once this was completed I had to make sure to choose the correct fabric to her design. Her main coat fabric was the most challenging to choose as I wanted it to look as close to the texture in game. I decided to choose 2 layers of silver scuba fabric as it created both padding with a shiny texture.
The gloves were completed for the May con too. These are made out of cycling gloves and EVA foam both thick and thin for the details.
For the october 2018 con, I completed the belt which is made out of EVA foam . The pockets are all able to open with a large popper for the fastenings. The belt itself has thick velcro attached at the back so it is easy to take on and off but still strong to hold.
I also created snowball the robot, which is able to be taken out of the tank seperately and includes Led lights that I soldered together. Snowballs head is made out of an old takeaway plastic soup bowl and the base of him is made out of EVA foam.
The tank is made out of thick acetate and EVA foam with magnets for the fastenings.
I won 1st place in the cosplay competition at EGX in London 2021 with Mei.
